This time a moldy rock...

So this time it appears I've got the moldy color good on the outside but "sky blue" on the inside.

And it still tastes excellent! :-)

That said I think I'm going to try the regular yeast versus the breadmaker yeast and see if that rises any better. But this definitely turned out better than the last!

No matter what color dye you use, the browning reactions that take place in the crust are going to make the outside of the bread look different from the inside. So, brown plus greyish-blue gives you "lichen on a rock". Purple would probably just give you a weird shade of brown. Reddish to yellowish colors would probably do okay in the browned crust, or at least look less weird than the others.

And if you want the dough to rise more, override the timer setting on the bread machine to allow more rising time. Seriously.
