I R Exchange Person...

Went to an Installing, Administrating, and Optimizing Exchange Server class the last couple of days. Actually learned quite a bit but also knew quite a bit already that was gone over.

My wife and I are still house hunting and it’s getting really interesting out there. We’re seeing houses that in the past have been worth $250k being priced at $140k. That’s a big drop in price and likely next year would be even cheaper. Unfortunately we don’t have that long to wait.

I was talking with some friends online and the question of what’s causing this economic situation came up. Truth be told I believe that it’s caused by a great many things:

The government has given tax breaks to the rich leaving the middle class to pay a larger tax burden.

Big business has been given tax breaks but not passed those breaks on to their customers. This is an artificial inflation that does not need to be there.

Marketing funded by big business has beaten it into people that the only way to live in life is beyond their means. The average person is deeply in debt and will not easily get out.

People are not being taught good finances from the get-go and thus live beyond their means according to what the marketing tells them. And since the marketing machine pushes the focus elsewhere these people remain ignorant of how much trouble living like that causes.

We’re being out-produced by foreign markets so we’re no longer in a strong position in the world markets. China will likely outstrip us technology-wise in a few years and reduce us to a second-rate country.

We’ve clouded both government and science with religious fundamentalism that is preventing our growth. Faith is fine on an individual basis but it’s no way to run a government.

We’re in a war that is consuming resources at a significant rate and shows no signs of ending any time soon. And if you don’t believe that you need to pay attention to the news coming from other countries.

We’re removing almost everything in people’s lives that makes them safe while touting security that does nothing but provide the illusion of safety. How many laws do we have that remove our freedoms in the name of preventing terrorism again?

We’re legitimizing criminal immigration that takes away jobs from people and moves money out of our country. I’m all for a person coming to our country to live but a good portion are working here to send money back home and doing so without contributing to the taxes. That leaves many of the middle-class hefting their burden while they send the money out of our economy.

And worst of all - we’re focused on the now WITH NO PLANS FOR THE FUTURE.

We’ve lost our way...

Can we get it back? Get back on the right path? I don’t know.

Certainly not so long as we continue to lie to ourselves and tell ourselves that we’re doing the right thing. People need to stand up and open their eyes to what’s going on around them.

I’m not suggesting am American Guy Fawkes day so to speak but we need to make our voices heard.

We need to make our voices heard far into the night and far into the day and beyond the boundaries of the “Free Speech Zones”.

We NEED TO BE HEARD! We need to be heard on every street corner and in every bus stop. We need to be heard in every business. Our words of concern need to be on the ears of every man, woman, and child in this country.

‘Tis the season so I’ll give a seasonal quote that I’m sure my mother will be proud of.

The line is from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol - the book - and it’s when the ghost of Christmas present opens his robes and reveals two children beneath it:

Full text here:

“They are Man’s,” said the Spirit, looking down upon them. “And they cling to me, appealing from their fathers. This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, and all of their degree, but most of all beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased. Deny it!” cried the Spirit, stretching out its hand towards the city. “Slander those who tell it ye! Admit it for your factious purposes, and make it worse. And bide the end!”

Whatever we do in the future we can no longer be ignorant of our lives and the lives and times of those around us. To do so denies not only our past but our future.

We have been better than this before and we NEED to be better than this in the future. If not...then we have no future in my opinion.

And that would be the worst crime our country has committed yet. Cutting our own throats...
