More waiting....

March 3, 2008 11:18 AM

Still no internet or phones as of today. I suspect it will be midnight tonight before they will become active. If not then I’ll have to call them and find out WTF is going on.

Finding minor things with the house. Ceiling fans in particular at the moment are problematic. The lighting assembly on the fan in the kitchen has broken/loose sockets. Thankfully that assembly is cheap and easy to replace. The ceiling fan in the living room is out of balance and is awfully close to the beams so it’ll likely have to be replaced. We need one with a light in there anyway.

Also someone kinked the copper water line to the ice-maker in the fridge. Corrected that slightly and it seems to be working ok. I’ll fix it permanently later.

DirectTV is moving us on the 8th so that’s all taken care of. I’ll owe our friends a DVR but that I can get easily enough.

My plan this week is to take Wednesday through Friday off and move whatever I can from one location to the other. I’ll probably even move empty bookshelves and the baker’s racks as well as boxes.

Some of the stuff I won’t be able to move but a great amount of it I’ll be able to handle effectively while people are are work. I think I’ll buy a hand-truck. I know we can borrow one but I kind of want my own. But then I also don’t know what they cost.

Tonight though we’re going over there to clean as well as bring some boxes over - probably kitchen stuff. Or at least the stuff in the kitchen. I should probably grab the servers I need to have running at a minimum and set them up for when the DSL turns on.

Regardless we’ll have everything moved on the weekend of the 8th and then immediately after we’ll scrub the heck out of our friend’s house. I want it shining when they come back.

We still haven’t bought a couch. Likely we’ll live with the one we’ve got for a bit then pick another one up once I roll over the credit union loan. That should happen soon but I may not get to it this week due to my schedule. I’ll try and fill out the paperwork today.

There’s still a bunch of paperwork to do as well. We need to get city stickers in the next 30 days, I need to transfer the title on my boat into my name, we need to fill out a change of address form at the post office, and I’m sure there’s something I’ve forgotten. I’m still not quite sure what to do with the taxes. Do I fill in the new address or the old one? Maybe I should look that up online after lunch...

On top of all this I have several projects to get started once we move in. For instance I owe cadhla a Tin Man music video set to Dorothy. I’ve also got a million wood things I want to make as well as a ton of writing I want to get done. And this isn’t even counting all the house things that I’m sure are going to crop up.

For instance our local county is making a group purchase of the terra-cotta colored rain barrels and I want to get a couple of them for the house to help with watering the garden and yard. I have to do something about gutter extensions anyway and on the one side of the house it’s going to be a problem due to the proximity of the neighbor’s driveway to put a normal extension. So I figure I’ll put a rain barrel there and use it to water the front lawn.

Regardless we have to get moved first.

on the taxes, use the new address (says the lady who's moved more times than she can count)

That's what I figured too. But then we also haven't filed our change of address form yet nor gone to the DMV. I'll likely take time to do those things this week too.

I'll have the iMac and TurboTax all set up well before mid-March anyway so I have plenty of time to file yet. And since the house doesn't go on this year's taxes it _should_ all be status quo.

Rain Barrel Kits
If you are not able to get a rain barrel from the county - you might want to check out the rain barrel kits from www.aquabarrel.com

Re: Rain Barrel Kits
Thanks! I'll check it out! (When I'm not limited to cellphone internet that is. *grumble*)
