Down low...too slow...

April 14, 2008 10:57 AM

So our kitchen sink is now refusing to drain at all. It still had water in it this morning after sitting all night. (Not a lot of water but water in the pipes that was not moving anywhere.) So I guess I’ll be buying plumbing parts on Wednesday and tackle it then. That means I’ll need to take my wife to work and child to school that day so I can use the van to pick up the parts because my truck still isn’t fixed. Worse case I _could_ drive it to the store but I don’t want to make it worse than it already is. And anyway I should have the transfer case this week - the guy is supposed to call me today.

So I figure I’ll need a long stretch of 2 1/2“ PVC (about 10 feet or so), one 2 1/2” diameter 90 degree elbow, one 2 1/2” true ”Y“, two 2 1/2” trap “U” connectors, and one galvanized<->PVC adapter in 2 1/2“ size.

That should replace everything from the sink to the main sewer line but I’ll have to get under there tonight and make sure.

No germination yet on the pepper starters yet but I don’t really expect it yet. I figure it’ll take at least a week or two to germinate them and start them. Maybe I’ll set up a ”starter cam“. ;-)

I really need to get out there in the garden and start tearing things out. It’s still too early to start planting because there’s still a danger of frost but at least I can get it all ready. The yard needs some work too. Mulch replacement, old leaves, sticks, etc.

The guy next door found out that I do computers for a living. *auuugggghhh!*

*ahem*

Anyway he’s having some problems with a game on his system so I’ll probably take a look at it.

In return I found out that he’s a carpenter. ;-)

And that means he can give me tips on what I want to do with the garage so I guess it all works out.

Figured out what I’m going to do with the windows in the garage doors thanks to a good bunch of friends - I’m going to put black limo tinting on them. That will stop people from looking in unless they walk right up to them AND it’ll keep them from getting an eyeful when I’m using the welder. Eventually I might do something different but this is cheap - and right now cheap is good.

Speaking of cheap I need to start sorting things out in my office so I can start working on things in the garage. For the most part I have the materials I need out there but I need to get the existing computer equipment out of my way so I can re-configure things and get set up out there. I figure I’ll start that inside the house tonight and do some more of it on Thursday. (I figure the pipes will take me all day on Wednesday.)

That reminds me that I have to ask a friend of mine where he gets the extra-thick rubber gloves he uses for working with PVC cement and such. I’ve got some gloves that should do fine but I want the thicker ones because I don’t remove my rings when working with gloves.

I don’t think I’ve ever glued any PVC so I’ll also have to get a few scraps to practice on just so I don’t screw it up. I think the worst of it will be removing the old galvanized because it’s full of water right now and because I’ll have to use the sawzall which is going to make a mess. Probably should pick up another bucket...

About your neighbor, look at the bright side. Now you have someone you can guilt into helping you fix the sink. My neighbors know that I'm a computer geek and so far I've only been asked to help once. They gave me a very very nice thank you. They have also been great neighbors since before I moved in. They've helped me when my car had trouble, when there was some minor flooding last August, watched my cats when I'm away, and so on. Teaching them how to burn a DVD is the least I could do.

Also can you let me know where you get those thick rubber gloves? I have this mandolin kitchen slicer and I'd like to have a pair for when I'm trying to slice something that won't fit in the guard. I tried that once and cut my hand.
