And so the pain begins...

September 6, 2009 9:53 AM 9/6/09

It hasn’t even been a week since I’ve been laid off and everybody I’m talking to is clamoring to me that I “need” to do this or I “need” to do that.

I refuse to be pushed into a job that I don’t want, don’t like, and is unsuited to what I want to do. (Those of you that have been very supportive of my choices please go somewhere else this post is not meant for you.)

I’ve spent almost 20 years working in a field that is extremely high stress and gives you NO home life whatsoever. You’re expected to LIVE THE JOB.

20 years of that. That’s HALF my life right now.

I’m NOT GOING TO JUMP RIGHT INTO SOMETHING ELSE THAT MIGHT WASTE ANOTHER 20 YEARS.

I. HAVE. TIME. TO. MAKE. A. GOOD. DECISION.

Does the economy suck? Yes.

Is it going to be tough to change directions? Yes.

Am I going to be able to do that? Yes.

I’m smart, hardworking, creative, and persevering and I refuse to be rushed into making a decision that will not allow me the freedom to use those characteristics either at work or at home.

“Beggars can’t be choosers in this economy.”

BULLSHIT!

EVEN. IN. THE. WORST. ECONOMY. THE. JOBS. ARE. THERE.

Do you know how the unemployment rate works? The unemployment rate is the percentage of job change UP AND ABOVE THE EXISTING STANDARD AMOUNT OF JOB CHANGE.

That means that even in the worst of times people are STILL able to find the jobs they want. Is it tougher to do so? Oh hell yes.

But our finances are such that all I have to do is find a job that is less than half of what I made at my previous job. Hell maybe even less than that because in about three weeks we will be debt free except for the mortgage.

Got it? Okay?

This BULLSHIT about having to jump at any and all jobs immediately happened to me the last time and forced me to take a consulting and re-hire for the employer that just spent six months screwing me.

I’m not about to jump at something that looks like I’m going to spend the rest of my life being screwed completely. Not going to do it.

Oh and one more thing...

Some people in the past who shall remain nameless have chosen to harass my wife concerning my decisions. This is not acceptable.

If someone reading this is thinking about being that person I will make you this promise.

My next job? It will be to reduce your computer and any electronics you own to slag. Period.

You're safe...for the moment.

I'm out of chickens to sacrifice. ;-)
