New member of the family!

Sir Richard:

He’s a small Lhasa Apso but we’re pretty sure he’s either the runt of the litter or a Lhasa/Shitzu mix.

Regardless he’s one of the most sedate dogs I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He’s still very skinny so we’re going to have to fatten him up and he’s small enough to have the same problems as “toy” breeds so we’re going to have to be a little careful. He also is in sore need of some grooming.

The big thing is that my daughter has taken a shine to him and is very careful with him. :-)

Right now he’s resting comfortably on the couch and we’re waiting for my wife to come home with the requisite number of bowls, leashes, and squeaky toys for the new member of the family.

We got him from the county animal shelter and the fee was a highly doable $80. We easily passed all the screening and pre-adoption paperwork without a hitch and he came home with us today.

Welcome to the family Richard. :-)

On other fronts my unemployment was extended but with a twist - we’re now synchronized on our incomes. That means we go BIG MONEY, no money, BIG MONEY, no money instead of the a regular stream of income like we’ve had for years. That’s going to take some getting used to but we should be able to do that.

Still haven’t finished the first part of my Torn World story. I’ve got it all in my head I just need to bang it out but that seems to be the problem. My mind is pushing me other directions and I don’t know why. I’ll try and work on it this week.

Meantime I’m also doing low-budget custom sonic-screwdriver contest entry that if I win could net me a proper replica of the Tennant sonic made by a professional company. Not sure if I’m going to win it but we’ll see.

Maybe that’s the problem. All of a sudden I have a ton of creative things going multiple directions and all are trying to run at once. A schedule would be the logical solution to that but that trick hasn’t worked in the past. Sometimes I’m such a useless clockwork...

It’s raining out but it should warm up the next week or so and I should be able to get started on the garden. I need to tear it down to bare earth and find lumber to build the raised beds. A friend has given me a source of mulch so that’s all covered. I need to cruise the freecycle lists more to try and get the lumber I need to do the beds in the side yard. With a reduced income growing our own food has become considerably more important. And besides I want all that lawn on the side yard made into something I don’t have to mow dammit. Two birds, one stone. ;-)
