ATT fraknuttery!

So get this...

1) Someone at ATT does a Check 21 clearing of my check then processes it
as a debit card transaction. They mis-key the amount by an extra $100.
($255 vs the $155 written.)

2) My bank gets involved and tells ATT's bank "Hey you screwed up." but
the ATT bank says "Prove it.". My bank guy (branch manager) says "Okay,
here's the standard bank paperwork including the clear-copy of the
physical check.". They tell him after all that basically "Well we can't
credit this without the signature of our regional VP. And by law we
don't have to tell you who that is." (WTF!?!?)

3) My bank guy gets on the phone with ATT and goes through about 8
people and ends up with Bangalore Bob (who claims he's US based) and
gets told that on Monday they will fax a piece of paper for me to sign
saying that I did not authorize the $255 debit and when they have that
they will reverse the charges within 48 hours and I'll have to write a
fresh check and pay them again.

I have an iPhone. I am now seriously considering jalibreaking my iPhone
and going with a different service. What utter assholes!

Thankfully the local branch of our bank rocks. This whole thing will
leave us overdrafted during the weekend but the bank will revert all
that without a trace once the money comes in. They also aren't going
to bounce anything - thankfully though we have no other checks waiting
to clear and no other electronic debits scheduled that I know of.

Un. Frakking. Believable.

Ya'know, you are not the only one complaining about them. jaylake  found out the hard way that if your credit card bills to a P.O. BOX they won't accept it. With what they did to you, I wait to get an Iphone/Ipad/etc. until there are options.

Well one of the things that I've decided is that they will be paid with a money order every month at the local ATT store.

And my wife has agreed with me that once our contract is up or if we can afford to break our contracts we will be unlocking our iPhones and moving them to T-Mobile.

Apple won't support them if anything breaks but that's within my skill set so no big deal there. And all the functions of the phone will work provided we only upgrade with jailbroken/unlocked firmwares.

So yeah, as soon as our contracts are up we're not going to be ATT customers any more.
