So...I...um...upgraded my Linux Mint 8 laptop today...to Mint 11...and forgot to back up my data beforehand.
*facehoof* <---for when *facepalm* is just not enough.
It's not really Mint's fault - I even mentioned saving my data in other forums and didn't do it. Thankfully everything that was on this laptop was backed up elsewhere or duplicated. Lost a few downloads and stuff but nothing too heartbreaking.
Anyway I've now got a forklift upgrade of Mint 11 on it and it's pretty sweet.
One annoyance though - no splash screen while booting. The Mint docs mentioned it and said it was okay because it boots pretty quick so it's not there for long.
Some of us have 2.0ghz Pentium 4 systems. Even with the best of ram they take a noticeable time to boot. When you have a black screen during that process it makes you wonder if the machine has died or not.
So I'm going to see if I can't figure out a way to re-enable the boot splash.
