Don't call me...

18:51 PM 05/12/2012

Look...I'm not trying to be a pain here. And frankly I do like to talk to my family and relative and friends.

I now spend almost 9 hours of my 11 hour workday on the phone. Often long phone calls that last an hour or more as I try and solve technical problems.

I'm not saying I don't want to talk to you people but please have the respect enough to understand that if I don't feel like talking to you on the phone there's a reason.

Over a cup of coffee, over the dinner table, text messages, email, even video calls possibly. Just not the damn phone.

When I get home from work the last thing I want to do is have an extended phone conversation.

It's most definitely NOT something the person on the other end of the phone is doing. Seriously. This is one place where "It's not you it's me." actually applies.

As a fellow tech/phone support worker, I can 100% understand.

Email, text, IM is fine. Just do not expect me to have my phone to my ear unless you want a pizza.

Understood. Why right now I don't spend as much time either on the Internet OR in social outings - I work in web design, and I spend all day either on a computer or in meetings being talked at/asked what to do/told what to do....

anti-social behaviour
Will be reported to the Dept of Homeland Insecurity. We should have the fireman check for books, as you may be a person who considers reading useful.

Verbal communication is sometimes the most effective. I have been in a number of meetings conducted mostly through chat apps and such, but in the end, a verbal exchange is usually the most efficient.

But mom calling is not about solving a problem, its about listening and reassuring her that you are still alive.

Granted, I do more raw coding (in more than one language, and we ain't talking C) than support.

Did you dump the vax yet?

Re: anti-social behaviour

Thankfully I don't have near as many meetings as I did in the past. I'm far more productive than I've ever been really.

As for mom sometimes she calls about a problem and sometimes not. I just get tired of being on the phone. Especially since I don't have a Bluetooth earpiece for it. Have to rectify that...

Dump the vax? Are you mad?? I _gained_ a vax last year! ;-)

Still I need to do some serious physical organizing out in the workshop as I suddenly find myself without a workspace for after-hours production work.

Although since our recent potential housemate has found somewhere else to move it might make sense to set up the desks in the third bedroom but I will have to think on that one.
